The Gathering Clover Island
The Gathering Place, called Wiyákuktpa.
The Port of Kennewick, Kennewick Arts Commission, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Board of Trustees, and Tamastslikt Cultural Institute joined forces to complete the recreational improvements, art, and interpretive installations on Clover Island. The goal is to create a vibrant, destination waterfront and to stimulate urban renewal within Historic Downtown Kennewick.
The sidewalk/boardwalk improvements provide public access to the entire south side of the island overlooking the marina harbor. Completed in 2017, it includes a seating area, bronze sculptures, interpretive signage, planting, night lighting and stonework adjacent to a waterbody feature.
The Gathering Place, is designed to share the tribes’ history, culture, and tradition of gathering Tule reeds within the area now known as Clover Island.
