East Gateway/Brewery Grade Intersection

The Dalles, Oregon

 

This project is located on the east side of the historic downtown. The city’s intent was to create a friendly gateway to The Dalles Community. It includes a new roundabout and realignment of the city’s easterly entrance. The alignment is approximately several blocks in length.

 

The main emphasis for the landscape architecture discipline included coordination with the design team and city staff on several concept alternatives for the major roundabout and remaining open space. The City of The Dalles approved a historical obelisk theme used in the early 1950’s. Emphasis was on the mosaic art panels which greet the visitors. The integration of an LED lighting system blended the modern and historical into a visually strong gateway presence.

 

Oregon Department of Transportation Standards were the format for the PS&E package. Project Landscape Architect with HDJ Design Group in Vancouver, WA.
